Obituary
Henry Zimmer, 83 years old, passed away Saturday night at 7:30 o'clock in his home at 228 South Ninth street after a brief illness. He had enjoyed his usual good health up to Friday at which time he complained of feeling ill. His condition, however, was not thought to be critical but his condition gradually became worse, resulting in his death in a comparatively few hours. Mr. Zimmer had been a resident of Burlington 53 years and was a shoemaker by trade. he was born in Hessen-Damstadt, Germany, on March 28, 1843 and when 28 years old he came to this country. For two years he resided in New York City and then came to Burlington. He was well known to hundreds of Burlingtonians as his business was located on Division street, near Third street, until the site was taken over by the Chittenden & Eastman company. Since that time he has handled his business at his home. On March 28th, 1875, he was united in marriage to Caroline Staub who survives him. Also surviving are one son, Emil H. Zimmer, and one daughter, Mrs. Arthur L. Gilbert, and three grandchildren all of Burlington. Mr. Zimmer was a member of St. Paul's M.E.church and of the A.O.U.W. Funeral services will be held at the home, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in Aspen Grove cemetery.
