Richard Albert Ziglar, 78, of Burlington, died at 12:55 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 1997, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Jan. 30, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of John W. and Dora Schuster Ziglar. On Aug. 3, 1943, he married Elizabeth M. Kuenzle at Naval Air Base in Pensacola, Fla. Mr. Ziglar was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington Juniof College. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, with the rank of captain. He was in the Naval Reserve from 1940 to 1942 and on active duty from 1943 to 1946. He was a pilot and commanding officer of Marine Utility Squadron One. He retired from Chittenden 7 Eastman Co. of Burlington after 40 years, where he was manager of the mattress manufacturing plant and served on the board of directors. He was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Burlington, where he served on the church board. He was a member of Burlington Waterworks Board, Burlington Zoning Board and was active in Beautiful Burlington Committee. He was an active outdoorsman, enjoying sailing motor boating, motorcycling, bicycling, hiking, swimming and water skiing. Survivors include his wife, Bette; two sons, Richard Ziglar of Port Orchard, Wash., and Paul Ziglar of Burlington; three grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy French of Burlington; and one brother, Paul Ziglar of Avon Park, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel,, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Ziglar will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Karen Nichols Dungon officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Asbury United MethodistChurch.
