Herman Zerneke, 80, of 1100 S. Fifth street, retired Burlington Route emplye, died at Mercy hospital late Monday afternoon following a five weeks' illness. Born in Germany Sept. 18, 1860, Mr. Zerneke came here at the age of 25 years. He was a member of St. Luke Evangelical church. Surviving are four children, Mrs. Ruth Balzer and Miss Emma Zerneke of Chicago, Carl Zerneke and Mrs. Ralph Rinker, both of this city; and eight grandchildren. His wife and one daughter preceded him in death. Services will be held at Giles funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. A.F. Schemmer, pastor of St. Luke church. Interment will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
