Obituary
John C. Zaiser, one of the wellknown business men of the city, passed away at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, at his home, No. 1400 North Central avenue. He had been failing for some time, but had been able to be up and about. Only a few days ago, he was down in the business section of the city, but complained that he was far from being well. The funeral will take place from the family home at 2:30 o'clock this (Tuesday) afternoon. Friends are invited to these services, while the interment in Aspen Grove will be private. John C. Zaiser, son of Jacob and Margaret Zaiser, was born in Schwaigern, near Heilbronn in Wuertemberg, Germany, Feb. 25, 1854, and was therefore comparatively speaking a young man. He came over to the new world with his parents, when a boy, and while they made their home in Jersey City he learned and mastered the butcher's trade. Coming to Burlington in 1866, he soon found employment at his trade, and in the course of time he established a shop of his own on North Oak street, where he worked hard and prospered. After he had been steadily at work for forty years he retired, and took a trip to the old home in 1910. Since that time he had been living quietly and trying to regain health and strength for future efforts. while he was a hard worker and a man who gave close attention to his business, he found time to devote to other matters. He was active and prominent both in the local and the national Butchers' associations, and he had given the people faithful service in the council as a member at large. He was courteous and pleasant, honorable in all his dealings and respected by all. Mr. Zaiser is survived by the widow, Mrs. Marie C. Zaiser, a daughter, Mrs. George Binder, four sons, Carl Zaiser of Houston, Texas, Frank J., John C., Jr., and Ralph L. Zaiser, of this city.. He is also survived by two brothers, Jacob Zaiser, of this city and Louis Zaiser of LaCrosse, Wis., and five sisters, Mrs. Kate Dietz, Mrs. John Gahn, Mrs. John Reusch, Mrs. Christine Dehner and Miss Anna Zaiser, all of this city.
