Three caskets containing the bodies of a father and his two sons lowered side by side into one grave in Aspen Grove cemetery this afternoon, marked the close of one of the most pitiful river tragedies which has occurred here in years. The bodies were those of John R. Zachmeyer, August Zachmeyer and John Zachmeyer, Jr., who were drowned when they broke through the ice on the river north of Burlington last Friday. Triple funeral services were held in Oak Street Baptist church at 2:00 o'clock in charge of Rev. Charles Zummach preceded by short services at Prugh's chapel at 1:30. The elder Zachmeyer was born in Batavia in 1894 and moved to Burlington with his parents when he was two weeks old. Since that time he lived here continuously except for a short time spent in Rock Island, Ill. He was a fireman on the Burlington railroad out of Galesburg for several years. On April 14, 1913 he was married to Miss Jennie Morrison, who with their four daughters, Mildred, 13 Lillian, 11 Lucille, 9 and Audreene, 7, survive. Other survivors are Mr. Zachmeyer's [aremts, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Zachmeyer of West Point, three brothers, Ed of Fishtale, Mont., J.M. of Yarmouth and Ralph of HArld, S.D., five sisters, Mrs. Emma Bazel of Burlington, Mrs. H.E. Talbert of Galesburg,, Mrs. L.M. Barnes of Fishback, Mont., Mrs. R.L. Watson of Burlington, and Mrs. J.A. Carson of West Point, and a number of other relatives. August was born in Burlington Oct. 31, 1913 and attended the Lauman school. John Jr. was born here Sept. 9, 1915 and was in the seventh grade at Lauman school.
