Obituary
Whatever the medical men may say to the contrary, there are people who die of a broken heart. Mrs. Madge B. Dahlin, who mourned the death of her soldier husband and for whom there was no help on earth, passed away at Burlington hospital at 12:50 o'clock Friday morning. When the news came that her husband had been killed in France, she did not complain, but she began to waste away and it was clear to those who watched and loved her that nothing could aid her. Madge B. Hull, daughter of Louis and Mattie Hull, was born at Trioga, Ill. October 14, 1893. About thirteen years ago, she, with her folks, came to Burlington, where she made her home to the end. She was married to Verne J. Dahlin, February 16, 1918. Ten weeks after the wedding the husband enlisted in the service and was sent overseas. He was not long in the service when he received a fatal wound and died in France last September. Shortly after the news had reached her, the young wife's health began to fail and she went on to join her soldier-husband. She was of a thoughtful disposition, always interested in the welfare of those dear to her, especially of her widowed mother, who is left alone in the world since her daughter's death, and the two companioned together and depended much the on upon the other. Madge was one of the most devoted members of the First Christian church, always being found at her post of duty. Before her marriage she held a position with the Schramm & Schmieg company, and was a favorite there as elsewhere. She leaves her mother, Mrs. Hattie Hull, two sisters, Mrs. Claudine Speidel and Mrs. Trix Walter of this city, beside other relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances, all of whom will hold her in affectionate remembrance.
