Obituary
August L. Bloomberg, 81, of 2416 West Avenue, former tailor, died in Des Moines late yesterday after a year’s illness.
Mr. Bloomberg was at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Otis Herweg, when he died, although his permanent residence was with a son, Paul, at the West Avenue home. He had been in Des Moines seven months.
A resident of Burlington 62 years, he was born in Sweden May 31, 1859, coming here at the age of 19. He was married Nov. 5, 1881, to Gerda Gustafson. She died Nov. 20, 1913.
Mr. Bloomberg was employed as a tailor by the Strause brothers here for 45 years. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church 60 years, a charter member of the brotherhood there, past president of Cascade Fishing and Hunting club, and a member of the Moose lodge.
Surviving are four sons, Arthur of Cambridge, Mass., Joseph of Milwaukee, Wis., Paul of this city, and Reuben of Sheridan, Wyo.; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Miller of Davenport, IA., Mrs. August Bloomquist of Cleaveland, Ohio, and Mrs. Herweg in Des Moines; four brothers, Sam, John, August, and Charles, all tailors, and a sister Mrs. Anna Jolly, also a tailor; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Bloomberg and his brothers and sister learned their trade under their father in Sweden.
Services will be held at Messiah church at 2:00 Saturday afternoon, following short private rites at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home at 1:30. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
The body was brought to the local funeral home today.
