Obituary

John Bloom, 408 May Ave., a retired Burlington Route employee and member of Messiah Lutheran church for 56 years, died at his home this afternoon after a lingering illness.
Mr. Bloom was born in Westergotland, Sweden, Aug. 7, 1858, and came to the United States in June 1881. He joined Messiah church and had continued a member since that time 56 years ago. Employed at the Burlington railroad shops here, he retired in 1929 after 47 years of service to the company.
His first wife died, and he re-married. The latter survives with three children by the first marriage; Mrs. Hilda Youngman and Edward Bloom of Burlington and Mrs. Ethel Beckman of Latty, Ia. Three brothers and one sister also survive, in addition to three grandchildren. The brothers and sisters are Alfred Bloom of Denver, Colo., William and Frank Bloom of Burlington, and Mrs. Ida Swanson of Stonghurst, Ill.
The body is at Prugh’s chapel. Funeral services for John Bloom will be held at Prugh’s chapel at 2 pm Wednesday with interment in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
