JoAnn Wiele, 80, of Burlington, died at 7:53 AM Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at the Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport.
Born March 15, 1935, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Oscar F. and Johanna J. Kupfer Wiele.
JoAnn was a school teacher and taught for the Gary, Indiana Community Schools for twenty-eight years.
She was a graduate of Burlington High School, and received her Bachelor's and Master's Degree with a major in music education from Western Illinois University.
She was a member of the First United Church of Christ where she started playing the piano at the age of nine, later becoming the Director of Music and church organist in 1992. JoAnn served as an Elder, member of the Consistory, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Chairman of Music and Worship. She loved her cat Lucy. She enjoyed reading, needlework, taking care of her indoor plants and her flower gardens. She along with her sister Joyce and brother-in-law Clinton, enjoyed traveling from coast to coast and abroad. They would leave every Christmas morning and drive for two days to go to Alabama to spend time with her nephews.
Survivors include one sister, Joyce Hagemann of Monmouth, IL; two nephews; one great-niece; one great-nephew; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law, Clinton.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday, March 7, 2016 at First United Church of Christ.
The memorial service for Ms. Wiele will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 7, 2016, at First United Church of Christ with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Social Hall at the church following the burial.
A memorial has been established for First United Church of Christ.
