Wallace Alonzo Gipson, 85, of Waterloo died Friday, June 10, 2016, at Unity Point-Allen Hospital.
Born March 2, 1931, in Gladstone, Ill., he was the son of James Everette and Ruth McGruder Gipson. He married Josephine Jeffers.
Mr. Gipson attended school in Burlington and later moved to St. Louis.
He worked at St. Louis County Hospital as an orderly, retiring in 1987. After retiring, he worked as a bartender in Centreville, Ill., and moved to Waterloo in 2013.
He enjoyed watching IPTV, listening to music and the Cardinals games on the radio. He became a Cubs fan after living in Iowa. He enjoyed informational books and TV programs, as well as conversations about politics and world affairs.
Survivors include four children, Deretha Fantroy of Waterloo, Stephanie Benjamin of Irving, Texas, Gilbert Gipson of Colonial Heights, Va., and Kristi Robinson of Harvey, La.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert of Monroe, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, one son, two sisters and two brothers.
The funeral for Mr. Gipson will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Union Baptist Church in Burlington.
