Obituary
Chester F. Crapo, son of Mrs.P.M. Crapo, passed away at midnight last night at his mother's home on North Sixth street. The young man had been in Texas for the past few months in the hope of recovering his health. Last Monday, he started home but was taken sick enroute and his mother left to bring him home, arriving here last Saturday evening. Everything possible was done for him but of no avail and death came to him last evening. The deceased was born July 25, 1876. He received his early education in the public schools of Burlington and was looked on as one of the best scholars and most promising young men in his classes. After graduating from the local schools he left for Phillips Academy at Exeter, N.H. he graduated from this school with high honors. While a student he was editor-in-chief of the Exeonian, the college paper. He made the publication one of the best literary organs in the east and his administration will long be remembered as the most prosperous period of the life of the paper. After leaving Phillips Academy, he entered Harvard and was in a fair way to become one of the best students but, at a time when he had but two years more work to complete his course, he received an injury to his spine, while in the gymnasium from which he never recovered. This necessitated his leaving school and he returned to Burlington. From that time, he had been in poor health and although always cheerful, he was in the search of health and spent much time at other points trying to regain what he had lost. In athletics, there were few others in his class who could excell him, and while at Exeter he held the tennis championship of the school and was acknowledged the best player in Burlington. The death of the young man is a heavy blow to the family. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. P.M. Crapo, three sisters, Miss Ruth and Lucy of this city, and Mrs. Martin Baldwin of Chicago; two brothers, Clifford and will. The funeral announcement will be made later.
The funeral of Chester Crapo was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence on North Sixth street. Rev. R.L. Marsh and Dr. W.m. Salter officiated. Interment was in Aspen Grove.
