Mr. Jay Lee Smith, 68, of Burlington died Monday, October 5, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born October 13, 1946 in Burlington, he was the son of Jay Earl and Mary V. "Betty" (Augsburger) Smith. He married Darlene Selman in 1991 in Burlington.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of Burlington High School and a Navy veteran of Vietnam. He worked at Color Ad and was a building inspector for the City of Burlington, retiring in 2009.
Mr. Smith was a member of Eagles Aries #150 and the Corvette Club. He enjoyed cars and collected cars, toy die casts and other collectables.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Selman of Burlington; two daughters, Amy Blakeman of West Burlington and Julie Smith of Burlington; one son, Corey Mumme of Mt. Pleasant; one step son, Tim Waeyaert of Moline, Illinois; grandchildren, Natalyn Blakeman, Emily Smith, Brayden White, Logan White, Jayde Mumme, Dillyn Mumme, Max Waeyaert, Clay Mennen, Julia Mennen, Lauren Mennen and Morgan Mennen; one great grandson, Hunter Hartsock; and two sisters, Amy Jones and Tara Kalar both of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Todd Smith.
The celebration of life service for Mr. Smith will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 10th, at Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
