Samuel D. Blanke, 79, of 1229 South Sarr Avenue, widely known Burlington insurance man, died at his home Sunday following a short illness.
Associated with his daughter, Alma Blanke, Mr. Blanke had been in the insurance business in Burlington since 1878. Their office was on North Main Street opposite the courthouse entrance.
Born in Fosterburg, Mo., March 1, 1855, Mr. Blanke was the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Henry Blanke. The Rev. Mr. Blanke was a Presbyterian minister.
Mr. Blanke worked as a clerk in a general store as a boy and came to Burlington in 1867. He married Matilda Gerbeling here and was a member of First Methodist church and local and national insurance associations.
Mrs. Blanke survives. Also surviving is the daughter, Miss Blanke; one brother, Charles, Burlington, and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Wolking and Mr. Emma Webmeier, Ponoma Calif.
Services will be at First Methodist church at 2 pm Tuesday with burial in Aspen Grove cemetery. Dr. JF Boeye, pastor of the church will officiate. Brief private services will be held at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home at 1:45 pm preceding the church rites. The body is at the funeral home.
