Obituary
Elmira Lucretia Blake, who taught at least two generations of students mathematics in Burlington high school, died Tuesday at 7:25 am in Burlington hospital after an extended illness.
Miss Blake, 79, had made her home in Colonial apartments.
She retired in June of 1948 after having taught mathematics at the high school since 1902. Previous to teaching at BHS, she had taught in rural schools.
She was born in Burlington, Dec. 25, 1879, the daughter of Melville and Nancy Graham Blake. She was a member of First Presbyterian church.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. MS Jewell of Hempstead, NT, and Mrs. CL Riegel of Davenport; two brothers, WB Blake of Albany, Or., and ME Blake of Lexington, Miss; a number of nieces and nephews, and several cousins, including Mrs. Harold Wilson of Burlington. Her parents and a brother, Henry, are dead.
Services will be Thursday at 2 pm in Prugh’s chapel. The Rev. William F. Keesecker will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
