Committal services for DeWitt D. Blake, 56, who died at his home in Ottumwa at 6:35 am Saturday, will be held at 4 pm Tuesday in Aspen Grove cemetery.
A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, Blake had been an employee of the Burlington railroad since 1905, and at the time of his death was serving as wire chief in Ottumwa.
A son of Charles B. and Ellen N. Blake, he was born in Dickinson County, Kansas, Sept. 7, 1887. He was married to Ann Bacher, of Burlington, who survives.
Blake was a member of Ottumwa Lodge No. 16, AF&AM; a member of the Burlington veterans’ association, of the EC Blackmer chapter of Eastern Star, Burlington, and of Lodge No. 227 of the AOUW.
In addition to the widow, there is a daughter, Mrs. Louise Morey, of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Allen, Ottumwa, and a brother, Charles S. Blake, of Blakesburg. There are also 2 nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday at the Lester Jay funeral home, Ottumwa, in charge of Rev. Edward Day. The body will be brought to Burlington for burial, with Masonic services at the grave.
Des Moines Lodge No. 1 will conduct committal services at the grave in Aspen Grove cemetery at 4:15. The lodge will open at 3:45. James Larsen, Master, Monday asked the Master Masons to attend.
