Obituary

Dr. Arthur C. Strong, native of Burlington and former prominent resident of this city, died last night at Tucson, Ariz., after an extended illness and his body will be brought to Burlington for burial. He was born here Aug. 22, 1882, the son of Charles H. Strong, and Clarissa Churchill Strong. He received his early education here, later attending the State University of Iowa, and studied medicine in Paris and Vienna. He was an eye-ear-nose and throat specialist. He practice for a time in Burlington and also in Evanston, Ill.,where he was a professor at Rush Medical college. At the outbreak of the World war Dr. Strong, then in France, endeavored to enlist in the French army but because of an operation was unsuccessful. Later, when the United States entered the war, he joined the American forces, serving as a captain at Ft. Oglethorp and later at the base hospital in Bordeaux. Dr. Strong was very fond of the river, had much to do with power boat association affairs and the compiling of racing rules. He owned and operated a number of speed boats and in later years spent much time cruising on the Atlantic ocean between New York and Florida.. He was a member of the cruising club of America. He also was a musician and composer. Dr. Strong never married. The body will arrive in Burlington Thursday morning and will be taken to Prugh's chapel. Later it will be removed to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Churchill where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
