Ernest August Starker, 88-year-old retired industrialist and financier and the last of a family who were among Hawk Eyeland's earliest white settlers, died Wednesday, April 20. He was born July 12, 1894, at Yarmouth to August and Marie Weinrich Starker. His father, a Yarmouth farmer and merchant, later joined with others to found Northwestern Cabinet Co. on Lucas Avenue. Ernest A. Starker was a salesman and later president of the firm. He served in WWI, married Norma Trebbe June 3, 1929, in Galesburg, Ill., had traveled extensively and was a member of several professional organizations; also of Carthage Lake Club. Surviving: The wife, Bittersweet Place. Committal: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aspen Grove Cemetery, the Rev. Thomas L. Mowbray officiating. The body is at Prugh's Chapel.
