Obituary

After a brave struggle of eight days for life Herman Ruckenbrod passed away Saturday night at 10 o'clock in the Burlington hospital, where he was burned in a boiler by steam on September 24. When Mr. Ruckenbrod was taken from the boiler on the day of the accident the attending physician stated that he was seriously burned and his recovery was doubtful but the victim of the accident displayed great vitality and he improved until it was thought that he was out of danger. A relapse came Saturday and he failed rapidly until he passed away. Herman Ruckenbrod was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ruckenbrod and was born in Burlington November 26, 1885, being 34 years old at the time of death. He served in Company I on the Mexican border and during the world war he was a member of the tenth engineers stationed at Fort Myers. He was a member of the Elks and Moose lodges and the Boilermakers' union. He was manager of the Hawkeye Boiler Repair shop which establishment enjoyed a thriving business in Burlington. Mr. Ruckenbrod was a member of the St. Paul's Methodist church.
