Obituary
Intelligence of the death of Mrs. Fannie Bishop, at her home in Kansas City on Tuesday, was received in this city yesterday. Some weeks ago, while driving about that place she was thrown from a buggy and badly injured. She suffered severely and never rallied from the accident but continued to linger in pain and doubt, gradually sinking until the end of life brought her relief from her suffering.
Mrs. Bishop was the widow of Mr. Emil Bishop, formerly editor of the Iowa Tribune, later publisher of the Freie Presse, and who died in Omaha in 1877. She removed to Kansas City last fall with her family of four sons and a daughter, all of them grown, and the young men being well-known here as the members of the Bishop Bros’ Printing company. The accident which befell her was mentioned by us some time ago, but its sad consequences were not then foreseen.
The body will arrive from Kansas City at 6:55 this morning and will be buried in Aspen Grove Cemetery, the funeral being held from the train with services at the grave. The sympathy of a large number of friends goes out to the afflicted children.
From another newspaper:
The funeral of Mrs. Fannie Bishop was held from Unterkircher’s this morning at 10 o'clock. From Theodore, who brought the remains here, we learned that his mother was injured six weeks ago while he was out driving with her. Two steam streetcar motors, coming from opposite directions, frightened the horse, which shied, and a hub striking the high curbstone, both were thrown out, Mrs. Bishop falling upon the sidewalk and the edge of the curb, Theodore, on the other side. While the latter was only slightly injured, his mother’s hip was broken, her ankle dislocated, and most serious, she was injured internally, and paralysis followed.
