Dr. James Alexander Jacoby, 70, of 121 Polk, suffered a fatal heart attack Friday morning while attending the funeral of Joseph H. Coffin, an old family friend, at Prugh's chapel. The physician was rushed to Burlington hospital in Prugh's ambulance and was pronounced dead about 10 a.m. Dr. Jacoby suffered a stroke about a year ago, but recovered and resumed his practice recently. "He felt fine this morning-better than he had for a long time." said his sister, Mrs. Dan Hill. Dr. Jacoby lived with his sister, a widow. He practiced here about 35 years. A native of Burlington, Jacoby was born Feb. 27, 1890, to James H. and Emma Held Jacoby. He attended Iowa State college, the University of Iowa and University of Illinois. He received his medical degree from Washington university at St. Louis in 1924, and interned at St. Luke's and Barnes hospitals there. He never married. He was a veteran of World War I and served with the army in France. His memberships included medical societies, Elks lodge and the Masonic Order. Surviving, besides his sister, Mrs. Anna Jacoby Hill, are his brother, Burlington dentist R.H. jacoby; a niece, Joan Hutchcroft, Kingston; two nephews, James D. Hill, Washington D.C., and Dr. James J. Jacoby, an air force captain stationed in Spain. One brother died previously. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Prugh's chapel, the Rev. Roscoe Wolvington officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
