Obituary

Eugene Frank Birzele, 68, of 312 Barret Street, died suddenly at his home Friday at 4 pm. He was born in Germany in 1880, the son of Paul and Eleanor Sauer Birzele, and came to the US 67 years ago. He was employed as a locomotive engineer on the Rock Island railroad from 1907 until 1942, working out of Manly, Ia. He moved to Burlington following his retirement. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Masonic Blue lodge of Manly.
Surviving are 2 brothers, August of Burlington and Adolph of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Mary Weimer of Burlington, with whom he made his home; 4 nieces and 2 nephews.
The body was taken to Prugh’s chapel.
