Carl F. Buettner, 65, of 909 Arch, connected with the furniture business here most of his life, was stricken with a fatal heart attack in the Third street lobby of Farmers & Merchants bank building about 3:15 p.m. Friday. He was enroute to a doctor's office in the building when he was stricken. A doctor was in attendance and a fire department inhalator squad called. In recent weeks he had been under a doctor's care. He was a member of the Buettner Furniture and Carpet company. He was born in Burlington, Aug. 11, 1887, the son of Charles and Marie Kuenzle Buettner and educated at Burlington high school and Elliott's Business college. During World War one, he served overseas with the 88th division. He had been a member of Bethany Lutheran church, Elks, Eagles and Moose lodges and was a Master Mason. Surviving are a sister, Meta E. Buettner, of Burlington; a nephew, Paul Buettner, of Burlington; two nieces, Mrs. Katherine Nixon of Burlington and Mrs. Marie Muhs of Salem, Ore.and a number of more distant relatives. two brothers, Herbert and Arthur Buettner, are dead, as are three sisters, Marie Tekla and Ada Buettner. Efforts were being made Friday to locate the Paul Buettners who are now vacationing in the east. The body is at Prugh's chapel.
