E. J. Binder, former humane officer, well-known and respected member of the community, died at his home, 1401 North Seventh Street at 7:30 last night, death being attributed to heart trouble.
Mr. Binder, who was 63 years old, was a native of Burlington and during his lifelong residence here made for himself hundreds of sincere friends who will deeply grieve to learn of his passing. In his younger days, Mr. Binder worked at the Hacker dairy, later entering the bakery business, is located at 711 North Sixth street. After retiring from his business he became humane officer and city assessor. He resigned as humane officer only recently when it was decided to make it a full-time position and he was unable to devote all his time to it.
Mr. Binder was born on January 28, 1866. He was a member of Zion Evangelical church, the Hawkeye Natives society, and the WOW lodge.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. EJ Binder; one son, Edwin A. Binder; one sister, Mrs. William Warth; three brothers, August, Charles, and Herman Binder of this city and three grandchildren.
