Obituary
Mrs. Christiana Biklen, 76, and a resident of Burlington for seventy-three years passed away, shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday at her home, 420 Iowa Street. In her passing Burlington loses one of her most prominent women and she leaves many friends who will sincerely mourn her passing and who will extend every sympathy to the surviving members of her family.
For several months she had been in failing health and her death was hastened by a fall suffered about two months ago, in which her hip was broken. A woman of sterling character and kindly disposition, Mrs. Biklen was endeared to all who knew her.
Her thoughts centered in her home and family where her life was ever pleasant. She was a member of the Zion Evangelical church and an active participant in church affairs. As a charter member of the Burlington hospital Aid society, she was deeply interested in the welfare of the hospital, giving much of her time and personal attention to matters pertaining to it.
Christiana R. Paule was born December 12, 1849, in Wurtemburg, Germany, and she came to America with her parents when three years old. The family located on a farm near Burlington. On October 27, 1868, she married GH Biklen and to this union were born ten children, six of whom survive. At home are Clara, Martha, and Oscar Biklen of Burlington; Alma B. Wire of LaGrange, Ill.; Marie B. Pendleton of Lawrence, Kansas. There also survives one step-daughter, Mrs. CD Klein of Burlington; seven grandchildren, and two brothers, PJ Paule and CC Paule of this city.
Her husband passed away May 27, 1901.
The funeral services will be conducted from the home, 402 Iowa street, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Mr. Buescher officiating. Friends are invited. Burial in Aspen Grove will be private.
