Mrs. Bertha Judith (Birdie) Bierstedt, 91, died at the Danville nursing home, Danville, at 2:05 pm Sunday, June 8.
Mrs. Bierstedt was the mother of the noted sociologist, Robert H. Bierstedt, Charlotteswille, Va., a native of Burlington.
The daughter of Joseph W. and Elizabeth Shick Strauss, she was born Aug. 1, 1883, in Burlington. She married Henry Frederick Bierstedt May 14, 1908, in Burlington. Mr. Biestedt died Dec. 7, 1966.
Mrs. Bierstedt was a member of Bethany Lutheran church.
Surviving: The son; a daughter, Betty Hartman, Burlington; a sister, Ruth Joy, Burlington; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Harold A. Bostrom will conduct a committal service for Mrs. Bierstedt in Aspen Grove cemetery at 10:30 Wednesday. The body is at Prugh’s Chapel, where a memorial to Bethany church has been established.
