Last night at 10 o’clock occurred the death of James H. Betts at the residence of his son-in-law, No1323 North Sixth Street. Mr. Betts had lived in Burlington but a year and a half and while here have been in poor health most of the time. He is the father of Mrs. EH Murray and Mrs. EM Denniston, whose husbands are in charge of the Mississippi Pearl Button Factory. Mr. Betts was born sixty-four years ago in New York State and was a veteran of the civil war. His wife and two daughters survive him.
The funeral of the late James Betts took place at his daughter’s home Tuesday morning, October 14, 1902, at 10 o’clock. Mr. Betts was born in Jordan, New York, on September 8, 1838, being 64 years old at the time of his death. He served his country during four years of the war of the rebellion, serving in Company I, Tenth New York cavalry. He was married to Nettie E. Sheldon, of Broadalbin, New York, who survives him. Mr. Betts came to this city April 19, 1901, with his family and made many warm friends during his residence here.
