Mrs. Fred Bessine, 81, Burlington resident for 60 years, died at her home, 1308 North Seventh Street Sunday, following a long illness.
Mrs. Bessine was born in Prissen, Germany, on May 5, 1849. She was married to Fred Bessine in January 1867 and the couple left immediately after the wedding for the United States. They came directly to Burlington which was their home from then on.
Mrs. Bessine was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was active in the work of the church as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the Ladies Aid society.
She is survived by one son, Charles; four daughters, Mrs. George Tiemeyer, and the Misses Helen, Minnie, and Annie, all of Burlington; one brother, Fred Bauer of Burlington; one sister, Mrs. Charles Thie of Burlington; two grandchildren, Fredrick Bessine, and Charlotte Tiemeyer. Mr. Bessine preceded his wife in death 14 years ago.
Funeral services will be held at the home at 2:30 pm today with Rev. RR Belter, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church in charge. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery
