Mrs. Clara L. Berry, wife of Wm. S. Berry, residing on Grand Street, passed away this morning at 11 o’clock at her home, after an illness extending over nine years. She was stricken with paralysis nine years ago and has since been an invalid. During the past week, her condition had been very weak and death was not unexpected.
Mrs. Berry was one of the best-known women in the city. She was born November 17, 1829, in New Hampshire and came to Burlington in the early days. She was united in marriage to Wm. S. Berry and they had been prominent residents of the city for many years. Mrs. Berry was a member of the congregational church. For the past few years, it had been the custom for Dr. Wm. Salter and Mrs. Berry to celebrate their birthday anniversaries together, as they fell on the same day. Surviving is two children, Mrs. Vohn Volkmer of Des Moines, and Mrs. Clara Belle Saunderson of this city.
