Oscar Berges, 84, 1203 N. Eighth, died at 10:50 am Sunday, May 27, in Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 27, 1888, in Powhatan, Ohio, the son of Rev. JD and Wilhelmina Guth Berges. He married Hilda Anna Ruff in Burlington on Sept. 27, 1911; she died July 11, 1965. He was associated with Schramm & Shmeig Co. of Burlington for more than 50 years.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Malta Lodge 318 AF&AM Consistory, of Davenport, United Commercial Travelers, Coast Guard Reserves, Past Grand Councillor of Grand Council of Iowa UCT, member of the board of directors of Mutual Fire & Storm Insurance Co. for 40 years and served as president the 28.
Surviving: Two brothers, Arthur, Birmingham, Mich., and Adoph, Burlington, two sisters, Elizabeth Berges, and Mrs. Emma Morlock, both of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral: 1:30 pm Wednesday, First United Church of Christ, Rev. Donald Klohr; Aspen Grove cemetery. Prugh’s Chapel is in charge. A memorial has been established for the heart association.
