Obituary
Duaine Leon "Mope" Cary, 79, of Danville, formerly of West Burlington, died Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born March 12, 1928, in Morning Sun, he was the son of Emmett Monroe and Betty Mae Dunbar Cary. On July 10, 1954, he married Mildred Elizabeth Tedrow in Fairfield. She died December 26, 2002. Mr. Cary worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, and became president and business agent for Teamsters Union No. 128, retiring in the 1980s. He graduated from Morning Sun High School Class of 1946, and then entered the Navy serving in World War II. He was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church, Eagles Club No. 150, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9162 and 10102, a former member of West Burlington Fire Department and Morning Sun Fire Department, where he served as chief in 1950s. He enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 state capitals, baseball, hunting and fishing. Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey and Rodney Cary, both of Burlington; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Kreiger of Morning Sun; and seven nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with family receiving freinds from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral with military rites for Mr. Cary will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
