CW Bentrim, a citizen of Burlington for fort years, and an employee of the West Burlington shops for thirty-five years was instantly killed near Ottumwa, Thursday, when he was struck by train No. 9 on the Burlington route.
He had been in failing health for several years and wandered away from the home of his daughter in Ottumwa Thursday.
He was walking down the tracks, four miles west of Ottumwa when the train struck him.
Mr. and Mrs. Bentrim lived at the family residence on Hageman avenue until last fall when they moved to Ottumwa to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. HG Zulauf of Ottumwa. The victim of the tragedy had been retired from work at the shops for eight years.
He was born in Hassencastle, Germany, on May 24, 1847, and was 75 years old. He had a wide circle of friends in Burlington who will mourn his passing.
Surviving are his wife; five sons, Joe of San Bernardino, Cal.; Frank of Rock Island, Ill.; Harry of Clyde Ohio, and Harvey and Andrew of Burlington; four daughters, Mrs. HGZulauf, of Ottumwa, Ia.; Mrs. Fred Darr of St. Mrs. M Darr, of Jt. Joe, Mo.; Mrs. Carl Diercks of Burlington; eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Bentrim was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held from the family home 414 Hagemann Avenue. Friends are invited to attend. Rev. Mr. Lesher will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
