Paul N. Benson, 57, of 1031 S. Starr Avenue, well-known lumber dealer and a past commander of Burlington post 52, American Legion, died in Burlington hospital at 4:10 Friday after a critical illness of but a few hours. He was taken to the hospital earlier in the day Friday.
Benson was born in Burlington on June 22, 1890, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels T. Benson. He married Signa W. Swanson in West Burlington on May 31, 1917.
He founded the Benson Lumber & Coal Company in 1934 and retired from active business in 1944. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Knights of Pythias, Elks, and Eagles lodges.
Surviving are his widow; 2 sons, Paul E. and Robert W. Benson, of Burlington; his mother, Mrs. Matilda Benson; 2 sisters, Mabel and Esther Benson, Berwyn, Ill. Two brothers are dead.
Funeral services will be held in Messiah Lutheran Church at 2 pm Monday. Rev. Russell Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The body will be taken to the residence from Burnett-Wallen funeral home late Sunday morning.
