Obituary
Oliver Benson, a veteran of the civil war and a resident of Burlington for many years, passed away this morning at 12:30 at the home, 1226 South Tenth Street.
He was born in Silverberg, Sweden September 9, 1838, and was 80 years old at the time of death. He came to the United States in 1859 and took up farming as an occupation.
When the civil war broke out in 1861 he enlisted in Co. D of the First Battalion of the First Illinois Cavalry and served until June 1862, when he was honorably discharged by General Schofield, but in August of the same year, he re-enlisted in Co. H, 102d regiment of Illinois volunteers, First Brigade, Third Division, and Twentieth Corps, serving in that company until the close of the war, when he was discharged near Washington, DC, June 6, 1865.
He was united in marriage on September 29, 1872, to Miss Nettie Benson, and Harry Benson were born to the happy union.
Besides his wife, and two children, there are three step-children, Miss Lena Benson of Chicago, Miss Emma Benson of Curtis, Neb., and Will Benson of Winfield, Ia.
Funeral services will be held from the residence, 1226 South Tenth Street, Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Friends are invited to attend.
