Former Burlington resident Charles M. Putmam, Jr., 83, of 126 Northgate Road, Peoria, Il., died at Peoria Monday, Dec. 5. He founded the Putnam Supply Company in 1927, a firm that became one of the largest coal yards in the Peoria area. Mr. Putnam was born in Brookline, Mass., June 13, 1900, to Charles M. and Martha Lane Putnam Sr. He married Carolyn Derby in Burlington; she died May 11, 1968, in Peoria. He married Edythe J. Blackmon at Peoria; she died April 23, 1980. He married Irene Wilkins Oct.15, 1982, at Peoria. He was a life member of the Salvation Army advisory board, a life member of the board of governors of Iowa State University, was a member of the Collectors Club of Chicago, the Kiwanis club and American Legion, having served in the army during World War I. He was donor of the Putnam Award at Bradley University in Peoria, was a director of Central City Savings and Loan Association, Peoria, and a member of First United Presbyterian church, Burlington. His wife survives. Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday, Endsley & Son Funeral Home, 1125 Main, Peoria. The body will be cremated Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Aspen Grove cemetery, Burlington, the Rev. Clifford Haskins officiating.
