Services for 52-year old Lawrence E. Carter, 800 N. Garfield, who was killed in a traffic accident in Illinois Saturday, Aug. 9, will be held at 1:30 Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, the Rev. Alvin F. Volle officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery. A memorial for Mr. Carter has been established. He was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Burlington, the son of Ellis W. and Anna Hucke Carter. He married Lola Ohlwein Oct. 14, 1968 at Monmouth, Ill. Mr. Carter operated, with his father, a grocery store and several laundromats prior to May 1, 1958, when he joined the Burlington Fire Dept. He was attached to Central fire station. Mr. Carter was a member of First United Church of Christ, and of the Eagles lodge, Firefighters Union, and American Legion. He served in the Air Force in World War II. Surviving: The wife; son, Stephen, San Jose, Calif., and daughter, Sharon A. Bowman, Burlington; step-daughter Marijo Mewes, Meridian, Miss.; his mother, Mrs. Anna Carter, Burlington; sister Marian Darnold, Burlington; a grandchild; and two stepgrandchildren.
