Mrs. Mary Benne, wife of ex-Supervisor Hanry Benne, passed away at the family home, No. 1210 North Central Avenue, Sunday. Mary Riepe was born in Westphalia, Germany, January 26, 1831, and came to this country with her parents and other members of the family in 1852, and was married to Henry Benne on December 14, 1852. They came to Des Moine county in 1856. Here they located in Benton township worked hard and prospered. In 1894 they retired from active life and they have lived quietly and happily in the city, enjoying the fruits of their labor and well-earned rest. Of the nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Benne, five mourn with their father. They are Edward Benne, of Burlington; Eliza Flaar, of Mt. Union; Lydia Beard, of Burlington; Matilda Morrett, of Washington, Ia., and John Benne, of Crete, Neb. The good woman was held in high esteem by a very wide circle of relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held from the family home tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 2 o’clock, with services from the German Evangelical church at 2:30 and interment will be in Aspen Grove.
