Lola Mae Carter, 81, of Mediapolis, died at 11:21 a.m., Mon-day, Oct. 1, 2007, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis. Born Oct. 7, 1925, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward Conrad and Matilda Jane Torbert Ohlwein. On Oct. 14, 1968, she married Lawrence E. Carter in Monmouth, Ill. He died in 1975. Mrs. Carter was a nurse. She graduated from Wapello High School in 1943. She went on to graduate from Burlington Memorial Hospital of Nursing in 1946. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She enjoyed collecting cows, playing bingo, the riverboat casino and traveling. Survivors include one daughter, Mari Jo Wilson of Knoxville, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Sharon Moore of Burlington; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Webb of Des Moines and Nola Miller of Seaford, Del.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and a stepson. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Prugh's Funeral Chapel. Friends also may call from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends. The funeral for Mrs. Carter will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Aspen Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Brad Hansen officiating. A memorial has been established for Jane A. Delaro Nurses Scholarship Fund.
