Obituary

This morning at 4:00 occurred the death of Mrs. Anna Benke, aged 42 years, wife of Mr. John Benke, after a protracted illness of two years. The deceased was afflicted with dropsy and has been a constant sufferer from that disease during all that time. Her death occurred at St. Francis hospital, where she was taken for treatment six weeks ago. She leaves three children, a boy of 15, and two girls, 12 and 9 years of age, the family residing at No. 1524 Osborn Street. The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon at 2:00, from the Bethany Lutheran Church, corner of Fifth and Division. Rev. E Bockelmann conducted the services and Mr. Carl Lohmann presided at the organ. The pastor delivered a very impressive and touching sermon. He told how the deceased had suffered for three years and was now at rest. Whenever the grave opened for a mother it was a lesson that should go directly to the heart and set those left behind to think more seriously of the future. The church was well filled with friends of the deceased, many of whom followed the remains to their last resting place in Aspen Grove.
