Obituary
Mrs. Sophronia Ann Bence, 77, of 1211 Pond Street, died at 6 am Sunday in St. Francis hospital after a 10 year period of failing health.
She was born Aug. 15, 1875, at Lorraine in Adams County, Ill., the daughter of John and Laura Hudson Roseberry, and was married to the late Charles H. Bence Dec. 18, 1893. Mrs. Bence was a member of the Christian church.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Mary Clark of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Laura Schroeder and Mrs. Violet Brissey, both of Burlington, Mrs. Snoda Coursey, Kirkwood, Ill., and Mrs. Geneva Hollingsworth of New London, four sons, John, Clyde and Cecil, all of Burlington, and Roy of Maquoketa; 34 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. One son, a brother, and two sisters are dead.
Services for Mrs. Bence will be held in Prugh’s Chapel, Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 pm. Rev. Mr. L.Z. Patton will officiate. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
