Obituary

Mrs. Julia Edith Bell, 70, of 114 Marietta, an active precinct committeewoman of the Des Moines County Democratic Central Committee, died Saturday at 9:20 am at her home. Death was apparently due to a heart attack.
She was born April 26, 1894, in Burlington, the daughter of Harry D. and Isabelle Brizendine Leake. She was the widow of James M. Bell, a former state senator from Des Moines county and a former mayor of Burlington.
For several years she operated Bell Insurance Agency in Burlington. She was treasurer of the Des Moines County Democratic Women’s Club and a member of Elks Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Methodist church.
Surviving are one son, Richard E Steinbrecher, Chrystal Lake, Ill.; one brother, Harry W. Leake, Burlington; one sister, Mrs. Lucian Beckett, Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Her husband, two brothers, and one sister died earlier.
The body is at Prugh’s Chapel. Funeral services for Mrs. Bell will be held in Prugh’s Chapel, Tuesday afternoon at 3:00. Dr. G. Dempster Yinger will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Prugh’s, Monday evening from 7 until 9 o’clock.
