Obituary
Isaac Bell, an old soldier, known as Isaac Logan, passed away this morning at 1 o’clock at his home 506 May Street, after a long illness. The old gentleman was well known around the city having lived here since the close of the civil war. He was about sixty-one years of age.
In 1861, he enlisted in the Pennsylvania volunteer cavalry and served during the war, until he was mustered out in 186. After leaving the army he came north and settled in Burlington.
While he was not an educated man, he made the best use of his time and filled a useful existence. He never envied anyone who possessed more than he had and was content with what came his way. He was a marvel in this way and made many friends for his sunny and optimistic disposition. To many, he was known as Isaac Logan and others as Isaac Bell. Bell was his father’s name and the name under which he entered the Army but after the close of the struggle, he lived for a time with his stepfather named Logan, and thus both names fell to him.
He joined the GAR in the east and was proud of the emblem which stood for the faithful work which he had done for the union. While not a member of the local GAR post, the Burlington old soldiers will assist in the funeral which will be held Saturday afternoon from the residence at 2:30. Interment will be on the soldier’s lot in Aspen Grove. The aged widow, who has been his faithful helpmate during the years of married life, survives him.
The Funeral will be held Dec. 17 from the residence at 2:30 pm. Rev. Clark will officiate.
