Mrs. Eliza M. Beardsley, the widow of Dr. Charles Beardsley, a former editor of the Hawk-Eye, died yesterday at her home in Clarks, Neb., according to word received in Burlington last night. The body will be brought here for burial.

He had located in Burlington the month before, becoming one of the proprietors of the Hawk-Eye and assumed his duties as the editor. He continued as editor until 1874, and then, after spending several months abroad, became an active leader in state politics. He later held several government positions in Washington until 1885, when he and his family returned to Burlington. He died here December 29, 1896.
The family was prominent during its residence here and Dr. and Mrs. Beardsley were both active workers in the Congregational church. Mrs. Beardsley was a talented woman with considerable literary ability. Following her husband’s death, she made her home with her children in the west.
She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Florence Nealy of Santa Ana, Calif., and four sons, Charles, George, and Simeon Beardsley, in California. Simeon Beardsley formerly lived in Danville, Ia., and conducted a weekly newspaper there.
