Obituary
Peter King, weel known colored citizen of Burlington, and an employee of the Perkins family for 47 years, died at Mercy hospital yesterday afternoon. He had never regained consciousness after suffering a stroke of paralysis at his home Friday. He was born in Rock Springs, Maryland, March 12, 1856. He was born a free man and came to Burlington in 1876, and was in the faithful employ of the Perkins family for a period of 47 years. He was married in Burlington to Miss Pauline Kendrick of Keokuk on December 14, 1882. His wife preceded him in death five years ago. He was a member of the Mt. Hebron lodge, A.F. and A. M. of Chicago. He is survived by his four sons, Harry King at home, George King, Charles King and Norman King of Chicago; two brothers, William King of Lima, Pa., and Albert King of Sandy Springs, Md; two nieces in Burlington, Mrs. Rita Ashby and Mrs. Elsie Williams, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the St. John's A.M.E. church. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery. The body may be viewed at Prugh's, Thursday.
