Obituary
Mrs. Madge Dahlin of 728 Louisa street received a telegram last evening from the war department in Washington, stating that her husband, Private Verner J. Dahlin, of Burlington, had died in a base hospital in France on September 24, from wounds received in action. Private Dahlin was 26 years old at the time of death and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Dahlin of 1161 South Starr avenue. He was united in marriage to Miss Madge Hull February 16 last, and was the first married man from Burlington to give his life for his country. The young man was inducted into the selective service of his country on April 30, 1918 and entered training at Camp Dodge. He was a faithful member of the Christian church. He departed for France on July 15 and entered the struggle to push the Huns back to Germany. He was born in Burlington and was educated in the Perkins school. Before he entered training he held a responsible position with the Schramm & Schmieg Co. Private Dahlin was a prominent, loyal, patriotic, young Burlingtonian, and had a large circle of friends here who mourn his passing with the deepest regret, and who extend their sincere sympathy to the wife and parents of the soldier in their bereavement. He is survived by his wife, Mira Madge Dahlin, his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
