Michael S. Phenicie, age 66, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Burlington, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, after declining in health.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan Meader officiating. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to the service at which time the family will receive friends. Military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will be held in conjunction with the memorial service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa, at a later date. A general memorial has been established. Michael was born March 12, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Floyd J. and Melva (Krekel) Phenicie. Following their divorce, Michael was raised by Floyd and Rita Phenicie. He attended school in Burlington, Iowa, and graduated from Burlington High School in 1968.
Michael served honorably in the United States Army for two years. Following his time in the military, he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad in Burlington, Iowa, for over twenty years until poor health forced his early retirement. He was a member of the First Church of God in Brighton, Iowa.
He is survived by a son, Christopher Phenicie of Glenwood, Iowa; brother, Ronald Phenicie of San Francisco, California; brother, Dean Phenicie of Burlington, Iowa; and step-mother, Rita Phenicie of Burlington, Iowa.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Phenicie and his mother, Melva Krekel.
