Irma V. Carrillo, 83, of Kalona, Iowa, formerly of Burlington, died at 2:02 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Pleasantview Nursing Home in Kalona. Born September 19, 1923, in Moron, Cuba, she was the daughter of Pedro and Otilia Barrero Blanco. She married Martin Carrillo on November 5, 1949, in Caibarien, Cuba. He died September 29, 2006. Mrs. Carrillo was a high school biology teacher in Caibarien, Cuba. She earned her teaching credentials at Instituto de Remedios. She was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church and St. Mary's in Iowa City. She was an artist and skilled seamstress. She enjoyed flower gardening and loved her pekingese and cocker spaniel pets. Until her own health became ravaged with Alzheimer's diesase, she tirelessly and selflessly looked after the health of her husband. Survivors include one son, Pedro (Stephany) Carrillo of Iowa City; one daughter, Mayra (George) Daniel of Galesburg, Illinois; four grandchildren, Ani Daniel Diaz, Martin Daniel, William Carrillo and Alwx Carrillo; and one sister, Otilia (Lorenzo) Diego. Besides her husband; she was preceded in death by her parents. Rev. Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf will officiate, with burial in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
