Mr. David Eugene Carpenter, 60, of Burlington, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at his home. Born January 20, 1950, in Gulfport, Mississippi, he was the son of Bonnie and Mary Lou Miller Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He enjoyed reading, watching TV, playing on the computer, and listening to music. Prior to becoming disabled he played softball and baseball, and was a craftsman and an excellent painter and carpenter. Survivors include his mother, Mary Lou Apple of Burlington; one sister, Lucinda Ann Peck of Ames; nieces and nephews, Courtney and Jamie Johnson of Macomb, Illinois, and Micah and Monique Peck of Wapello; great-nieces and great-nephews, Eliza and Seth Johnson of Macomb, and Evelyn, Addison, and Ethan Peck of Wapello; and an aunt, Lois Sailors of Gulfport, Mississippi. His father and brother, Dale Helm, preceded him in death. There will be a private graveside service Wednesday in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Pastor Sam Fratt will officiate.
