Obituary
Glen McDowell Carman, 80, of Burlington, died 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born on December 6, 1931 in Burlington, he was the son of James Norman and Eva Mae (Fischer) Carman. He married Patricia Ann Coen on May 28, 1960 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Burlington. She passed away February 12, 2007. He was a graduate of Denmark High School, Burlington Junior College and Northeast Missouri State where he earned his Master's degree. He served in the Air Force as a Medic and lab technician during the Korean conflict. Mr. Carman was a long time teacher in the Burlington Community School District, retiring in 1993. He also taught in Bloomfield, IA, Fontenelle, IA and in West Burlington. He was a member of the Spring Grove United Methodist Church, the NEA, IESA, and the Des Moines County Teachers Credit Union. He served on the board of directors for the Disabled Veterans and the Burlington Baseball Association. Survivors include three daughters, Jane Ann Loxterkamp of Hampdon, ME, Mary (Robert) Tobin of Solon, IA and Susan (Christopher) Goble of New Windsor, IL; one son, Mark Carman of Burlington; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret (Marvin) Thomas of Letts, IA and Marie (Greg) Bassett of Osborn, ME; three brothers, Dale (Louise) Carman of Stony Brook, NY, Jim (Neomi) Carman of Crestview, FL, and David (Helen) Carman of Baltimore, MD and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Patricia. Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, April 27th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service for Mr. Carman will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28th in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Walter Reynolds will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be recited by Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
