Beverly Diane Brown, 62, of Colonial Heights, Va., and formerly of Burlington, died at 1:53 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, in her daughter's home in Richmond, Va. Born Nov. 20, 1948, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clyde and Doris Marshall Hultgren. On June 12, 1985, she married Larry C. Brown of Texarkana, Ark. Mrs. Brown attended Old Dominion University and received her master's degree in nursing in 2002. She became a licensed family nurse practitioner, also attending VCU Medical College of Virginia and received a post master's certificate in nursing in 2008. She held many certifications. She worked at C&E in Burlington for many years until she moved to Virginia, where she was employed with John Randolph Hospital in Hopewell, Va., for more than 20 years. She was an assistant professor at Virginia State University, and she taught in the nursing program. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed attending craft shows. She was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Epsilon Chi Chapter, Old Dominion, Norfolk, Va. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Shari Cook Rees, Jeanette Cook Priestly and Christina Cook Daugherty, all of Richmond, Va.; two sons William "Billy" Cook of Lubbock, Texas, and Gregg Brown of Dinwiddie, Va.; 11 grandchildren; her mother, Doris Hultgren of West Burlington; one brother, Richard Hultgren of Burlington; one niece; one nephew; and one great-nephew. She was preceded in death by one daughter, her father, one granddaughter, and her grandparents. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, where family will receive friends. The funeral service for Mrs. Brown will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Erick E. Swanson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be in the Hass-Thielen community room following burial.
