Mrs. Jean L. Funck, 94, of Burlington died at 12:50 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016, at her home.
Born December 8, 1921 in Davenport, she was the daughter of Joseph H. and Clara M. (Lueschen) Thuenen. On July 20, 1946 she married Walter G. Funck in Davenport. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2015.
Mrs. Funck was a graduate of Davenport High School and Washington University at St. Louis and was a resident of Burlington since 1949.
Mrs. Funck was a homemaker and also worked in the office for the Girl Scouts. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, PEO Chapter H.U., Questers Sho-Quo-Quon #322, Norman Circle of Kings Daughters, The Book Club, Carthage Lake Club, Shakespeare Club and Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity and Language Honorary both at Washington University. Mrs. Funck served on the board of the Burlington Public Library and was instrumental in raising the funds for the new Library. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf.
Survivors include her daughter, Gretchen (Kent) Lewis of Burlington; son, James W. (Kathleen) Funck of Gig Harbor, Washington; five grandchildren, Sean (Cheril) Lewis, Ethan Lewis, Lisl (Noel) Zamora, Kristina (Matt Jasperson) Funck and Anna Funck; one great grandson, Jared Zamora; and one sister, Charlotte (Julius) Raith of Louisville, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Walter.
The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Funck will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23rd, at Bethany Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ralph Andersen officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.
Memorials have been established for Burlington Public Library, Des Moines County Historical Society and Special Needs Foundation.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
